Fall 2018 | WSOA

Using the Caltrans District 7 Headquarters located in Los Angeles, CA as a precedent, our team designed and constructed a concrete and steel model incorporating the building’s unique “double-skin” facade and its 8-ft concrete footing. The facade is a large part of the building’s sustainable building practices, allowing for piston-powered perforated aluminium

panels to retract and extend based on time of day, assisting in the control of temperature and light the building receives. The head height concrete footing is textured with the grain of wood, creating a large underfloor that aids in stability and cooling of lower levels.
